All three of my girls were born in summer. I sent my oldest to school at just barely 5 yrs. old. and regret doing so! Jrgh and H.S. came, she wasn't allowed to participate in everything her peers were involved in (curfew, dates, driver's license, etc. . .). What a nightmare! Needless to say, I enrolled both child #2 & #3 in pre-school for two yrs. each beginning @ age 4. Starting Kindergarten at 6 yrs. has been fine! At the beginning of their Senior year, they will be 18 yrs. old!

my oldes went at four, her b-day was the cut off date! she was so big and smart for her age that keeping her out of kindergarten would have been a tragedy. she is very happy and well adjusted. i think it all depends on your child.

My oldest daughter started at age 3, my son at 4, and my younger daughter at 3. My two youngest are a year apart, so when my son went to school my daughter always wanted to go, and would try to stay in the class with him everyday. She was totally ready.

I live in a State that says that they can't enter kindergarten before the age of five, so my daughter will be 5 1/2 when she can go. Which works for me since I am such a procrastinator that I have not got her in preschool yet, working with her at home with workbookand PBS. She is also Diabetic and I am fearful of her being away from me, I know I shouldn't be it is just a few hours.
