Letting Emilie watch sesame street in the morning is the only way I get a shower.

My son is not really interested in tv yet just his toys.

Depends on the kid. My 7mo isn't allowed any TV. My 2yo can watch as much as he likes since he doesn't really sit and watch yet, it is mostly just "on" while he does other things and I carefully screen what shows he has on. My 8yo gets 12 "coupons" a week that are each good for either one TV show (one episode), a video, or an hour of computer time and if he doesn't use the coupon by the end of the week, he can sell them back to me for $.25 each. When the younger kids are older, I plan on using the coupon idea with them too.

Ellie and I just have the TV or radio on for background noise but mostly we are running around the house playing games. The only thing that she really will sit down and watch is Finding Nemo.

I love your coupon idea! Maybe I need to do that with my hubby's hobby!!! lol

We don't even have cable, TV gets on my nerves. for my daughter I have a few Nick Jr. shows (little Einsteins, backyardagains)on DVD, you can buy whole seasons without the awful commercials. She also Loves Hello Kitty and the DVDs come loaded with episodes and they each have a different lesson or value to learn, Baby Einstein DVDs were a Godsend when she was tiny, she would be absolutely fascinated by the music and constantly changing scenes and colors. the DVD player is usually on for about an hour in the afternoon while I get some housework done. then for about half an hour after bath time at night. we sit on the couch and have "calm down time". On the weekends we rent a Disney or other family movie and the three of us watch it together after dinner. I cant stand Cable and the way children learn to think they NEED everything they see on commercials.

We do more videos than regular TV. Stuff he likes to watch over and over. Mostly Blues Clues, Cars and Wiggles. He's only 2 soon to be 3 so there's not a lot of sitting still to watch and I normally watch with him so I can ask questions about the story and such. Alone time in front of the TV for him is normally when I am making dinner or trying to get a quick shower.

As far as commercials go, I agree they are pretty bad. I only let my girls watch PBS or Noggin since they don't have any.

My baby would watch a lot more if I let her, but I limit to only a few minutes at a time, and only educational DVDs or commercial-free educational programming.
She really enjoys shows that have music, and she loves dancing to the theme songs. She also loves it when I sing along to it!

My daughter will be 2 on Tuesday. She "watches" very little of the TV, actually, but she does like the shows with lots of music. That holds her attention for a little while. I'll put on the Doodlebops, and she enjoys that and is just a couple of feet away while I'm getting some transcription work done. Even though most of it gets done when she's sleeping...lol! :-)

As she gets older, though, the TV time will definitely be limited! I want her to get outside time to play and to read.

I don't really have a time limit yet. He watches TV in the morning, then throughout the day, but never just sits in front of the TV, he enjoys listening to it while playing and running around. Maybe it's a guy thing, LOL! My husband is the same way.

We watch TV, but I DVR everything. I never really have the TV on and he just watches what he wants. It's always been educational in our house. My boy has seen Spongebob maybe once or twice! I record what I want him to watch and that's usually it. DVD's like movies, Singing Time (awesome!) and other DVD's like Electric Company and School House Rock... Plus, it's good when I record so I can get through those commercials! I don't like commercials!

Oh... and yes.. BABY EINSTEINS!!! My son is 4 1/2 and he still watches them. Every mother needs to buy Baby Galileo for their child. It's so soothing. I would end up sleeping, too!!!

Watching too much tv has been proven to be harmfull in the future and the learning capacity and creativity of the child. I limit tv to less than an hour for my 3and a half yr old son and as he gets older he will be limited to same or even less . One of the rules in our house is no tv during school nights and he understands and follows that. Tv whether educational or not can be very addictive .

my son is 23 months and watches toy story once a day so about 1.5 hrs a day of tv he even says "to infinity and beyond" he refuses to watch anything but toy story lately!! Crazy I know lol

We have the tv on during the day and after dinner for some family time but my daughter isn't old enough to sit and watch so she will play with her toys but if a catchy song comes on she will dance to it and then go back to what she was doing.

I think that it is ok for a child to watch a varied amount of tv as long as they are getting sufficient amount of excersize too. As children in my house we were always outside on nice days or playing in the snow until we were dragged in . . but we also had many days where we just sat in front of the tv for lack of anything better to do. We are all very lean and active adults. . I guess it's all personal preferance.

well it really depends on the day...some days we don't stay inside, we go outside and play in the yard but others we stay inside but may not watch the tv at all or we will watch one of his movies and play in the floor...I mean he is only 6months old so he doesn't just sit and watch tv, its mainly there for him to look at in between toys. OR I'm watching something while he's playing and he glances at it.

I have been allowing my son to watch the "Your Baby Can Read" DVD set. He really enjoys it and he is really learning. Other than his DVD, he does not watch TV. He follow the instructions on the DVD. I feel if he is learing, then I do not see the problem in it. Also, I do not use it as a babysitter, but it does give an opportunity to fold clothes while I am in the room with him.

So far only about a hour at most but I am sure that will change as they get older.

My son is still a little baby but he already loves the baby einstein videos. If he is fussy I will let him watch one but its only a couple times a week. I dont want to get him too use to watching tv

i dont care how long my daughter watches t.v. for because i leave nick jr. on all day and she learns new things from the shows they play and its not like she is just sitting in front of the t.v. 24/7 she is always up moving around and also playing with her toys and getting her exercise at the same time. i believe as long as you do things with your child while they are watching t.v. then there shouldnt be a time limit on how much they watch. its not like im turning my daughter into a couch potato by letting her watch t.v. all day she is also learning from it at the same time.

When you live where it rains all the time you don't have how many hours they can watch t.v.
