I think _Dumbing_Us_Down_ by John Taylor Gatto should be required reading for all parents. If you haven't read it, seriously look into it.

I think I will look into that. I've heard of it before but haven't actually read it.

My daughter is too far ahead of most kids that I don't want her held back by the "normal" kids. I know, most parents think their little one is a genius, but she's mastering some things that are not introduced until 1st or 2nd grades and she's only 4 years old. Either she's advanced or the schools desperately need to catch up. Or both.

I think homeschooling is the best way to go, Honestly I have been homeschooled my self, and I think it is great plus you have more time with your kids while they are still young and you can teach them your beliefs over the general public and you have less sick time less doctor visits and more education and more familly time and better expeiriences without all the drama of drugs and weapons at public schools.

My largest reason for homeschooling is because my husband and I had a very poor time in school. He (my husband) was a very energetic in school and was later put in remedial room as a poor student because he couldn't sit still in a classroom. I can only imagine what my son would go through in one. He too is a very energetic child and loves to interact, if he was in school he may be put in detention or considered the class clown. I was considered a day dreamer because I would bore easily in school, in that I was constantly put down by both my teachers and my parents. So then I would later just slack off so that I would eventually catch behind with the other students. Then I was considered lazy and the teachers along with my parents would monitor everything I did and criticize often. With all that along with the peer pressures as well (neither of us fit in socially either) school was hell. I feel I would better serve my childrens success by teaching them one on one at their pace. Plus I would be able to see what they want to do and be early in their life and help them build on it early as opposed to a teacher of 25+ students. I also want them to be able to think for themselves and have the confidence to be their own person. Somehow to me I think that individualism dies in the public system. It reminds me of an assembly line.

I would like to homeschool my son in the fall because I know that the school system where we live at just teaches them to take tests that the state offers them to them it is all about the funding for the school system. I believe he would have a better chance learning things at home besides he has a hard time sitting still as I did in school and would be labeled I just do not think that is fair. Does anyone know how to start homeschooling in the state of Texas I know that the law states that it is considered a private school but I am kinda confused about how to start?
