I am so teaching my son Spanish and/or Mandarin as soon as I can. It is going to be so important for him to know those languages in the future.

Ultimately, I'm not going to force my kids to learn anything. If they want to learn a second language, awesome! If not, trying to force them would only cause themselves and me suffering.

I was taught how to speak Italian and Croatian before I spoke English as a child and I would like my son to learn as well.
If it works it works, if it doesn't well I can always try and if it ends up not working I won't lose sleep over it.

My husband is from Argentina so I would like my kids to learn Spanish even if he speaks English very very well because his family still speak only Spanish, and I want them to be able to talk to them.

I am teaching my child sign language and I will start with spanish as soon as he starts speaking. I wouldn't mind him learning German either. I think for the children that are in school that can not speak either a word of English or speak words at all I feel if my son can make them a friend that would brighten their day. I believe everyone should have a friend and if my son can understand them they both gain a friend.

My daughter is of mixed heritage, and her Grandma speaks to her in Spanish. I would love for her to learn Spanish well and at a young age, because it is a part of who she is. It would also be good for her in the future to be bilingual.

Anymore these days, there is always a different language being spoken in our country. I think it is necessary if you plan to travel outside the country where it is needed. It is always nice to learn something new, and if it helps you, then better yet.

I am Italian, and I talk to my baby in Italian. I definately want him to learn since half of his family only speaks Italian!
I ordered some bilingual toys for him I am sure it will help.
Languages are essential, the more you know the better it is.

you cant go anywhere now without having some one speak to you in another language. so if my child is learning it then i want to as well so if they decide to yell at me in one language i will know what their saying. plus when you are trying to get a job its always a + if you are bilingual. and that would be good for both of us. but thatsway down the line with the job thing their still really young

I feel it is important for my children to learn Spanish because their Grandfather only speaks Spanish and I want them to be able to communicate with him. It is much easier for them to become bilingual at a young age then to wait until they are older. It will open doors later in life if they are bilingual.

Children often learn second languages in school but sometimes kids with certain learning styles/disabilities struggle with learning a second language (no matter what age you teach it to them). Therefore, I don't recommend forcing a child to learn a second language, especially if that child struggles with it from the beginning.

where we live at there are many people who speak only spanish. Almost every job opportunity available wants bilingual only. we feel that if our kids learn another language, especially spanish it will benefit them greatly. besides as parents we have our children do alot of stuff that they don't want to do such as try foods, go to bed, go to school..etc why not have them learn a new language. I doubt they'll hate me for it later in life.

My children speak both spanish and english, spanish was taught to them as the primary language and english is secondary, so at home we only speak spanish and they know this rule, but outside of home its a mix of spanish and english
I feel it will help them nthe future to be able to be biligual, and know of their heritage. |

If they are started on it early on they dont even know any better and it can only be helpful and bebeficial for them in their future, it is not forcing them. Especially with our economy today for where we live in Oregon and CA there are many Hispanics, to learn spanish only makes sense and more and more jobs are requiring a second language like spanish to be spoken because with our country we have so many immigrants.

I'd like for my child to learn spanish as well as any language he comes in contact with but was told that it's best if he either learns it from a native speaker or just someone else because it would throw him off if I suddenly started speaking another language.
