Storytime at Borders Bookstores is more of a local event, but still worthy of our review. It is our understanding that each Borders has their own local events and schedule. Check out their website for information on local storytimes.
We recently attended the Grinch's Birthday at Borders in The Woodlands and walked away somewhat disappointed. The advertisement we saw indicated a more birthday party scene...you know cake, games, a bigger to-do then their normal Storytimes, so that may be why we were left hangin. The Grinch himself was present, and since our kids have watched the cartoon everyday since it first aired this year, it was pretty cool to actually see him in person. Other than that, the Storytime reader had a great voice, but took a lot of unnecessary breaks to navigate her staff and tell the Grinch what to do. It did not seem like there was much effort put into the event and the turn out was dismal, very dismal. We did receive coupons for the local skating rink and some Grinch themed coloring pages for attending, and the overall message of taking our kids is that we promote reading, so that is good. I can say that since it is free, it is definitely worth attending, but don't get you hopes up, even for the specially advertised events.
