Regular colds (without fever) and how contagious they are. Basically, a kid is contagious 24 hours before the first symptoms and about 5-7 days after the symptoms start. Obviously this is for viral infections that can't be treated with antibiotics and just need to run their course. I also asked about H1N1 and was told that the population most affected right now are those 5-25 years old. They are not sure why that is the group that is being infected, but that is who is at the highest risk at this time. She also said that of the "flu" cases she has seen, the children have run a fever for 2-3 days and had stomach issues (diarrhea, vomiting) in addition to cold-like symptoms.
