Dark Lover
by J. R. Ward
paranormal romance--2 1/2 stars. If I had picked this book up in a book store, I would have put it right back down. I would have done that because there is a glossary at the beginning of the book, which tends to be a sign of very weak world-building. However, since I DID read it, I can vouch for the fact that in this case, it was just a mistake by the publisher to place it there since all terms were made clear in the context of the story and the glossary would have been fine in the back of the book.

My main criticism of this book is that there were too many point-of-view characters (there were a lot of stupidly named characters too, but that was a minor thing really) and the plot was rather convoluted. It wasn't until almost the end before the reasons for having so many POVs became clear and things started tying together. Before that, on a lot of the character shifts, I found myself asking "Why do I care?" which is never a good sign!

I also found it annoying that the romantic characters became physical SO quickly, but sometimes that happens in this kind of novel, so I just rolled my eyes and kept reading.

Given that this was the author's debut novel, it wasn't too bad and I will probably continue reading this series sooner or later.
