fantasy--3 stars. First book in the Elemental Masters series. One of May 2009 book club selections. I really enjoyed this book, even though it took place during a historical period and I don't usually like period work. I found the archaic phrasology of the story awkward at times, but I understand why the author chose to do it, since it did an excellent job of helping to set the stage for the story and kept the reader in the period it was to have taken place in. I also really liked how the ending was resolved between the main characters, since it wasn't exactly the typical or expected happily ever after (and that is about as much as I can say there since anything more would be too much of a spoiler). I probably will read more books in this series eventually, but I'm in no rush to do so.
