contemporary fantasy--3 1/2 stars. First book in the Dark Swan series. EXTREMELY well researched fantasy novel (yes, you do need to research fantasy writing if you are including mythical creatures and/or properties of stones, metals, herbs, etc with magical reference). I found the characters to be strong and likable and the story compelling. Richelle Mead is quickly becoming one of my very most favorite authors.
