Echoes in the Dark
by Robin D. Owens
fantasy--2 3/4 stars. Final book in the Lladrana series. This book was 548 pages and about 250 pages too long. About 100 pages was just waiting and going over and over and over the characters' thoughts about waiting. About 150 more pages were really menial details about things that totally didn't need to be there. It would have been a much better story if it had been tightened up and shaved down considerably. The final battle was pretty gross and gory and then the very end was super sappy and cheesy. The author's note says that this series was based on stories she told herself as a teen and really it shows. I like the planet and probably wouldn't mind visiting there (especially if I got to ride a volaran! That would be cool!), but the stories and even characters (some more than others) left something to be desired.
