This group is for nonverbal kids (and their families) to get together with other nonverbal children and play in a kind and fun social setting. Even though a child is nonverbal doesn't mean that they are not social or do not enjoy being around other children. There are many different ways that a child can communicate and have fun. Unfortunately the social groups at many different facilities are set up for when a child is already talking and can be taught the common conversational methods for being social. Another situation that can occur, even in special needs play groups is that most of the children are verbal which can lead to the nonverbal child/children being left out of the activities. So, hopefully this will be a friendly way to get the kids together in an understanding social setting with no pressure or expectations. The playdates will just be a fun way to let the children be around each other and to let them decide how interactive they would like to be. There will also be dates added for the parents to meet and get to know each other. If there is a vast age difference between members children then there can be a younger and older group playdates so that it works more harmoniously to give everyone the best advantage to enjoy each others company.
