Blue Bell Ice Creamery & Waterpark in Brenham - This was fun, the tour was ho-hum but at the end you get a scoop of fresh FREE ice cream, it was yummy! We have yet to visit the Waterpark but we saw it driving in, it looked great! After that you need to head over to The Southern Flyer Airport and Restaurant, aka ‘The Poodle Skirt’ because all the waitresses wear poodle skirts! Awesome shakes and burgers. About 10 minutes away from the creamery. Fried pickles anyone? Best Onion rings in Texas!!

  always fun and great learning for kids. We have been visiting the children’s museum since Nina was a baby and she still loves it. We had her 6th Birthday party at the Houston Museum of Natural Science and it was AWESOME!  Great servcie, cool reptiles, the kids LOVED it!

Ikea
– So not only do the kids have a fabulous play area here, but you get to drop them off, you get a pager, and you can walk around and shop kid-free while they play in an amazing kid zone. Pretty cool!

IT’Z
- 18355 Tomball Pkwy (@ Grant), Houston, 77070. Kids 2 & under eat free! We got here at about 8pm one Friday night and it was perfect timing! No crowds, lots of fun, indoor mini rollercoaster, bumper cars, GREAT party rooms for birthdays.

Rienzi Storytime Tours
A great find from The Conlees: You can access it through the Museum of Fine Arts. Basically a house in River Oaks and its collection of porcelain were donated to the museum. Reservations are required but the children get a tour of the house with different stories read in the various rooms such as the Ball Room etc. It is from 10-11. I think on Tuesday and Thursdays. Best of all - it is FREE. We really enjoyed it last year. Great way to introduce children to fine art.

Ruckus Room
  (indoor jumping) off Huffmeister and Fleur-de-Lis. Great place! The owners are too sweet! I really like this place because you can bring your own food in AND leave and come back. Great concept!

Space Center Houston
Close to Kemah and Galveston. Be sure to check out all of their ‘behind the scenes’ tour options. I hear the
‘Level Nine’ tour is way cool (age 16 & up),

The Woodlands Children’s Museum – 9595 Six Pines Dr., #281-465-0955.  I hear this place is so much fun! Not as big as the Houston location but equally as entertaining. There is a rumor that one might be opening up in Katy as well.

JP Morgan Chase Tower Skyscraper
Want the highest public view of Houston (without being in an airplane of course)? Then grab the kids and head down to the JP Morgan Chase Tower at 600 Travis in Downtown Houston. JPMorgan Chase Tower offers the highest public view of Houston from the Sky Lobby on the 60th floor. This floor serves as an observation floor as well as a transfer point to shuttle tenants to floors 49-59 and 61-75. The Sky Lobby is open to the public during the working hours of 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday. The Disheveled Woman and Personage and Birds are also on display in the Sky Lobby. At the base of the building you have restaurants such as Ninfa’s, Pasta Fagoli, etc. Plus the tunnels and shops! (see my Downtown Tunnel System listing)Way fun for something different!

George Bush Presidential Library & Museum
- WOW! This place is awesome! Classic film night, Baseball card swap Saturdays, Summer Programs! Oh, and there are books too! Lots of em’!! Worth the trip! We have other fun things to do in this area so please stop in and take a peak!

Mrs. Baird’s Bakery Tour

Replica’s of famous stadiums that serve as a multi-use recreational facility for sports such as baseball, soccer, softball, volleyball, basketball, you name it! They also have batting cages, a restaurant/concession area, and covered pavilions. You can have corporate parties or birthday parties! Awesome!
 

Blue Barn Fun Farm - FM 1458 (3 miles North of Brookshire), #281-375-6669. I love places like this. Milk a cow, pet baby goats, hayrides…the good life!
 

Brazos Bend State Park - 21901 FM 762, Needville, TX 77461. #979-553-5102. Brazos Bend State Park, approximately 28 miles southwest of Houston, covers roughly 5000 acres. Activities include camping, picnicking, hiking, biking, equestrian, and fishing. Six lakes are easily accessible to fishermen, with piers located at 40-Acre, Elm and Hale Lakes. Visitors are cautioned to pay due respect to alligators, which are numerous in some areas of the park. COOL!
 

Bryan Beach - Located in Brazoria County, near Freeport (hence the word ‘free’ because this is one of the few Texas beaches you can still get on to without paying) It is beautiful, untouched, and no crowds. Fish, camp, relax on the beach! Great website by George Hosek!

Buckhorn Ranch & Lake 15627 Garrett Rd., Houston, 77044, #281-4567-0841. I can’t wait to check this place out! Looks like a great place top have a big family reunion or corporate party!

Chinatown – Downtown Houston – 2 websites to browse: http://www.chinatownconnection.com & http://www.houstonchinatown.com the kids love going down here. Even the corner stores are different then what we have here in Cypress; filled with dragons, kimonos and toys from the other side of the world. Great food and fun. Check out their festival listings.

Dewberry Farm  So much fun! People are always asking me what my favorite 'outdoor' play place is, and I have to say...THIS IS IT!  On a perfect fall day with a group of kids, right before Halloween, it doesn't get any better!  Pick your own pumpkins right off the vine, hay rides, the giant corn maze, private events, petting zoo, I LOVE IT!!! (oh, and Nina does too) Only open during late summer/fall. Wear your walking shoes (I am a flip flop freak but this is not the place for them)!!!
 

Dinosaur Valley State Park - P O Box 396, Glen Rose TX 76043. 254-897-4588. Dinosaur Valley State Park contains some of the best preserved dinosaur tracks in the world. The dinosaur tracks are located in the riverbed, so please call ahead to check on river conditions. Dinosaur Valley State Park, located just northwest of Glen Rose in Somervell County, is a 1524.72-acre, scenic park set astride the Paluxy River.
 

Discovery Green  - 1500 McKinney, Houston, TX, 77010. #713-400-7336. 12 acre park located in downtown Houston near the GRB. Has children’s playground, interactive water features, art exhibits, dog runs, HPL express, Wi-Fi, dining, and so much more! This is a wonderful new Houston treasure!

Houston Zoo Ok, we went on a ‘Behind The Scenes Tour’ with the Reptiles and Amphibians and Nina LOVED it. The Zoo offers TONS of behind the scenes tours that are great. You have your choice of animal from Elephants, Giraffes, Primates, Big Cats, etc... Check out all the different opportunities for your kids. The new Natural Encounters exhibit is so cool and would make a great tour!

Jellystone Park Camp Resort in Waller- 34843 Betka Rd., #1, Waller, TX 77484. #800-347-5106. Thanks SO much to the fun and fabulous Lowe family; we have discovered this incredible gem right near us! A wonderful camp ground with a water park, cabins, outdoor movies, fishing lake, petting zoo, mini golf, and tons more! WOOHOO!
 

Kings Orchard – in Plantersville, #936-894-2766,  this place is so great, really gets kids excited about eating fruit! They get to pick their own and have many events throughout the year. Great fun!
 

Lake Somerville,  Other than Lake Travis, this is my husband’s favorite spot to take his boat out to wakeboard. Great place to camp and fish too (if you want to stay somewhat close to town) 

Matt Family Orchard - 21110 Bauer Hockley Rd., Tomball TX 77377 (keymap page 326 section B). #281-351-7676. 33 acres of pick your own fruit & berries!  They have a Harvest Festival, Bow Hunting, you name it!  Their pumpkin pickin's look mighty fine!!!

Moorhead's Blueberry Farm - 19531 Moorhead Rd, Conroe, 77302, #888-702-0622 (toll free). Beth Blute wrote to me about this fun place: Moorhead's is family run, very friendly, neat, with only blueberry bushes for acres in the piney woods. You also see birds, rabbits, and deer out there when you pick in the evenings. You can eat all you want right off the bushes and take home all you pick at $1.50 a pound. Extra blueberries are great gifts for grandparents and other hosts on those summer trips. Picking is June and July, but call first.

Nature Discovery Center – 7112 Newcastle (Bellaire) #713-667-6550. I have been visiting my Mom & Grandmother every week in Bellaire and had no idea this place existed! My friend Kim O’Quinn recommended this cool place!
 

Noah’s Ark Animal Sanctuary, 18430 K-Z Rd., # 281-351-NOAH.  We adopted our 2nd dog from here They are always in need of volunteering & donations so I got some of the local teenagers doing this and they love it. They also have a big play ground for kids. It is a ‘no kill’ shelter so we love that. This is NOT a place for babies or toddlers. The dogs run around the grounds and tend to jump, just FYI. They have horses, pigs, & other fun animals.
 

Noah’s Ark Pool and Waterpark at Quillian Recreation Center – 3663 Westcenter Dr., #832-668-1800. (Beltway 8 @ Westpark) Be sure to contact the ‘Westchase’ location. They have changed their website and the only contact number I found is directly to the church. You can rent this facility for birthday parties, it is really neat.
 

Oil Rig, Offshore Energy Center -  Offshore Drilling Rig and Museum, Pier 19, Galveston, TX, USA. #409-766-STAR. Ever wonder what it is like to be out on an oil rig? Want to have your birthday party on one? This place rock! Located in Galveston, there are tons of fun things the Ocean Star OEC offers!
 

Old Town Spring  So much fun! Great shopping, food, and festivals. Love it here!!  One of my top favorite places to shop with the gals!!
 

Orange Show  open Weds - Sunday FREE - This place is a Houston icon.  Made from beer cans, scrap metals, and any other type of tin and this and that.  Been around forever.  Everyone has a different take on it, kids think it is wild and weird and usually love it.  Fun just to stop in, check it, and say to people 'Yes, we have been to the Orange Show'.  
 

Pick Your Own Farm -  Great resource to finding a farm where you can pick your own fruits, veggies, Christmas tree’s, etc. Way cool!
 

San Jacinto Monument & Museum– 1 Monument Circle, La Porte, 77571, #281-479-2421. Experience the world’s tallest monument tower! Remember school field trips here as a kid? While there you also need to visit our Battleship (see below)
 

Schlitterbahn Galveston The Padre Island location is still my favorite (you never have to get out of the water), but at least we finally have one near us! Go early!!! The lines get LONG!
 

Sea Center Texas is a state-of-the-art marine fish hatchery and aquarium located on 75 acres in Lake Jackson, Texas. Always FREE.  
 

Skydive Houston - 15355 Penick Rd, Waller, TX, 77484. #281-550-8070. Ok, this is nuts…I know. But maybe it’s just time to be crazy…crazy like a FOX! My Mother, my 56 year old MOTHER did it so that means YOU can too! Her video is awesome! Family
