Advice please...

hi, Im new to this site and I would like some advice if anyone has any for me... My name is Alisa and I am 29 years old. I have two toddlers (twins) that are 2 years old. My son Bryce is a very good eater but my daughter, Peyton is very picky, in fact, she is still on baby food. She will only eat squash & sweet potatos. Other foods she will eat include: baby crunchies, yogurt, applesauce, saltine crackers, chips, & french fries. My son is ready to eat "people food" full time now and I really want to stop the baby food. Should I just stop buying it and only offer her "people food" until she is just so hungry she has to try it? Should I just feed her french fries and yogurt all the time? I feel like if I keep buying the baby food she will never have a reason to try real food...Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you...

Hi there! I have 5 year old twins. My kiddos did things at different ages too. I wouldn't worry too much about that. Personally, I would stop buying baby food. I'm pretty sure that they should be on finger foods by 9 months old (as soon as they have teeth.) Baby food isn't a substantial source of nutrition after 1 year old and chewing is a self help skill they must learn. If she doesn't like meat or if your family is vegetarian, you could offer her high protein /iron foods like enriched breads and pasta, spinach, beans, peas, and peanut butter accompanied by foods high in citrus to help her digest the protein and iron. I would think of it like this; if she would only eat candy, would you continue to buy her candy? You're the boss. She needs you to control her diet and offer her only the best age appropriate foods. Maybe you could start with soft foods like cooked noodles, canned fruit, and toast. I hope that helps! I know it's hard to gauge sometimes. Good luck :-)

Hello again,

I thought I should probably add that kids will NOT starve themselves. So if you quit buying baby food, she might resist for a short time, but she will not go hungry. As long as she knows you're not going to give in, she will eat when she's hungry. Be strong ;-)

Thanks, I was thinking of trying to get her to eat buttered noodles , so I will try that and no more baby food...

-try pastina...my son loves it...it was one of the first "people" foods he at..I make it with butter and a little milk.
-also gerber makes ravioli--another first for my son

my son is 2 now, and I never know what he is going to eat-one day he loves one thing and the next he wants no part of it.

good luck!

my son just turned 2 and his fav foods are mac-n-cheese and hot dogs. i would definately stop the baby food. to get my son to eat his veggies i sit him in his high chair and wont let him down until he eats at least two bites. then i reward him with a surgar free popsicle. it works out pretty well for me. he is VERY stubborn and strong willed so it takes awhile but if you stay strong they will give in first. hope you figure it out

hi thanks, I have stopped the baby food. My son is eating very well. So far, my daughter only eats applesauce, oatmeal, and yogurt...hopefully she will try more things as she gets older and they are trying to work on it in her toddler class also... thanks for all the advice !!
