Do You Have a Birth Plan??

(These are my private journals from my 1st pregnancy.)

I was able to get outside for walks more this week, and the exercise felt great. Something funny happened too. My friends gave me a jogging stroller for a baby gift, and since I don’t have a baby to fill it yet, for added resistance I popped a 15-pound bag of birdseed in the stroller. Then I pushed it up and down the hills around our neighborhood for a great workout. It just so happened that a senior couple was out for a stroll, and when they saw me coming up the road with the baby jogger, they got excited. They wanted to stop and peek at the cute baby! When they looked in and saw the bag of birdseed, well, the look on their faces was priceless. They were quite confused until I explained I was still pregnant and out for some exercise. We all had a good laugh!

Another thing we did this week was create my birth plan.

My doula Janet, Dan, and I sat outside on the patio, and discussed all of our options for the birth. The purpose is to be fully prepared and therefore avoid any misunderstanding later. It feels good to know that I have choices when it comes to my baby’s birth.

A birth plan is an inspiring craft to make when you are pregnant, afterall you have so much time! I made one wirth my second child. Who's going to cut the cord, father can't leave my side for at least 12 hours if he's a smoker... that sorta stuff.
Also, the delievery is about you! Its very overwelming and can be stressful when you are in fullblown active labour, so you may want to consider the minimal amount of people you'll have in the room with you aside with your husband and birth practitioner. I made sure I wasn't aloud to have any pain medication no matter how much i was demanding it, cause the pain is tramendous! I had asked that i was positively reminded of the healthy blood and body i wanted my baby to be born from and that the drugs wouln't be a good idea. A lot of other requests. Before i brought it to the hospital, on the due date, i went to a computer and wrote it up really nice and put the birth plan in a nice duotang and painted the front! Now i can give it to my child when she is old enough to understand why i kept it!
Good luck and becareful with the new excersice, its not recoomended to start a new strenous excersice in the middle of your pregancy. Sounds fun though!!

Thanks for your comments! Very helpful for someone looking to make a birth plan. I didn't want any medications either.
I actually have been a personal trainer for almost 20 years and have exercised my whole pregnancy, but thank you for your concern!
