Co Sleeping or Crib???

(My private journals from my 1st pregnancy.)

We found a crib and changing table at a sale for cheap. I know we probably won’t use the crib right away, because I’m going to nurse the baby, and I want him (I still think it’s a boy) right close to me and at arm’s reach. I don’t want to have to get out of bed multiple times a night to feed him. My mom kept us in bed with her, and I’m going to follow her tradition. I think it makes for a happier baby. Just my opinion, and I know it’s not for everyone.

This little one has been kicking a lot, directly under my right breast; he must have a foot or hand that keeps pushing on my rib all day long. I have to use my hand to physically move it away, because sometimes it really hurts.

Hello I am 34 yrs. old and I have 3 kids an 8 yr. old boy a 6 yr. old boy and a 16 month old girl. I breast feed all three of my children I just finished weaning my little girl almost two weeks ago. I also had them sleep with me in the bed. You can buy a co-sleeper it puts a safe barrier between you and the baby, I used one with my little girl and I didn't have to worry as much about rolling over on her..but there's one con to not having them in their own bed.. they get used to sleeping with you and for me it was always hard to get them to sleep in a crib, unless you decided to let him take his naps in his crib so in the future he would be familiar with it when it came time for him to start sleeping on his own. My 16 month is still sleeping w/ my husband and I, it's kinda getting crowded..lol plus she gets hot between us and kicks the cover off so we're stuck freezing..lol Well congratulations, get plenty of rest now I'm sure you've heard that before but trust me when your baby gets here your gonna need all the rest you can get. I hope my comment has been some help to you..

P.S. If you have any questions about anything I'd like to help answer them if I can..

First of all congratulations. I have an 18 month old girl and im still nursing. Having a newborn near you while nursing is the best thing, at least in my opinion. My daughter has been sleeping with us since day one and we love it. Now, that she'll be two in the summer we are trying to put her in her nursery and it has become a challange. we miss her as much as she misses us. lol.....

Thank you both for your great advice!
I found with my son it was so hard to get him out of my bed. He still comes back and he's 41/2 but it doesn't really bother me...just my husband.
Blessings,
Jennifer

I know someone from Lamaze that has a friend who lost their baby due to co-sleeping. The baby was suffocated between parents/sheets and blankets. Wouldn't it be safer to use the co-sleeper and have the baby sleep safely arms reach away?

It's such a touchy subject...I guess each parent has to make the decision that is right for them. Look at all the kids who've died in cribs lately from suffocation or getting caught in the lower bars.
I believe the best thing that we can do as mothers is pray for God to watch over our children while they sleep and keep them from harm.
Blessings,
Jen
