cut them off!!!they will be motivated when they don't have money to pay for cell phone, trendy clothes, social activities with friends. it sounds cruel, but they will want to make money!! do their friends have jobs?? point that out too...peer pressure :)

how old is he? is he going to be going to college or university? tell him he needs money for books/food/partying whatever....
if not going to school, then tell him he's an adult and you're going to start treating him like one. I don't know what he's into, but for example if he likes computer games, stop buying new games. or make a deal, tell him that if he gets a job, you'll help him buy his first car/apartment whatever...it's hard to give advice when I don't know anything about you guys, but I hope that helps. with all the things that teenagers buy these days,I can't believe that he's cut off and doesn't need money for something...

hi I have a 16 yr old boy he is still in high school his second to last year.In australia we have a law that says that until they are 17 they have to be learning or earning they cant go on welfare payments or youth alowance yes they can get assistance from the gov after that if they cant get a job but they make them take anything.anyway my son still at school works for macdonalds part time but he is still rude lazy and not applying himself at school he is old enough to get a learners permit but has done nothing about it nor has he done anything about finding work as an apprentice mechanic which he apparantly wants to do.My point is that even with a job sons can be lazy.I have stopped doing his washing and if he wants a lift he needs to ask me in advance and I will only do it if it suits me. a job wont solve anything but i would certainly not be giving him money for anything other than essential items ie deodorant
