My daughter and I got HORRIBLE yeast infections that would not clear up, so I did the forbidden thing and quit breastfeeding. I wanted to start up again, even if it was just for a portion of the day. Does anyone have any idea how long your body continues to make milk for? Milk still come out if i pinch, but my breasts aren't full and the milk certainly doesnt pour out
once the sucking motion stops it usually takes about 6-8weeks for the milk glands to completely dry up. ( everyone can vary) If you are still producing a small amounts of milk you can try to put your baby to the breast and the sucking motion would cause the milk glands to start producing milk again.
Another side note-- you metioned you have been treating yeast infections. If you have been on medications/antibiotics this can cause you to lactate also and in this case you wouldn't want to try to start to breast feed again.
I started up again after stopping for a bit. It takes a lot of work and time to get back up to regular flow again. I would often have to massage the nipples to stimulate the glands then breastfeed. Also pumping every 3-4 hours help to stimulate milk production. When pumping there wasn't a lot of milk but found that when I breastfed after the pumping my daughter got enough milk and was satisfied.
