I am a Business major and have contemplated; after having my own child and dealing with the hardship of baby gear prices, starting a baby co-op. I know that we've all heard about the babysitting co-ops and many of us may be involved in them; this is really just a stretch of that thought. I recently went on a trip to see my mother on the train with my infant. My mother had bought me a beautiful pack and play to take with me on such trips, but with all the other necessities for a two week trip I didn't have the space to pack it along with me. When I got into town I called a friend of mine and asked them if they'd let me use their pack-n-play as well as an exersaucer to keep my young daughter occupied...it was just for a week and what they lent me was gently used but still in good condition. They also have an aunt that owns a consignment baby shop and were going to ask if I could just borrow something from the store for the time...unfortunately she didn't have what I needed...but it got the cogs moving... Here we go; we all see the cutesy baby getups...the slings, backpacks, playmats, mobiles, stroller ride-ons; not to mention the stroller, carseats, pack and plays, exersaucers, walkers, jumperoos...the list really is endless. So my thoughts are to open a site (not a website a location rather), one that has a check-out system; something like the library, where when someone has the need for a short or long period of time they can come in a get what they need; knowing that after a couple of months the child is going to get tired of it; and move upward. So why am I writing this; I'm wondering if this would really be a good idea or not...this is really from a mother's perspective and a business woman...also this would really be a non-profit type of thing...unless some of the gear was actually up for sale...so let me know ! |
