2 years old and not talking

Hi i am a mother of 2.  My oldest son just turned 2 and really is not talking he can say a few words like mama, daddy, and his brothers name and also a few other basic words. I always thought that he would start talking on his own time.  He understands what i am saying completely.   My mother said that he should be talking alot better by now so now this has me worried.  I was just needing some advice on what to do? And also if any other mother have or have had this proplem with there child??

Please help,

Hi there. I don't know if I would worry tremendously, but I would try Baby Einstein DVDs or something of that nature. My brothers son is 5 and is the same way if that makes you feel any better. He is going to school this year and my brother said he can't understand what he is saying....
Good Luck, but try the Baby Einsteins!

There's no harm in discussing it with the pediatrician. They can offer you either the reassurance that his speech is developing "normally", or direct you to seek out speech therapy.
Personally, my 2 kids didn't talk much until they were 2+. I remember that with my oldest, we couldn't wait for him to start talking...and then when he did - we sometimes wished he'd stop! :)
Read and talk to him constantly!
Blessings,
Emily
