Baby won't take a bottle |
Help! My breastfed baby is now 11 weeks old and she refuses to take a bottle of breastmilk. I fear I will never be able to leave her (even with her father for more than a few hours if she doesn't learn to take an occasional bottle. Has anyone had any luck with a similar problem? |

I'm having the same problem! I even tried those hyped up boob bottles (you know, the Adiri brand bottles that are free of all toxins and shaped like a breast?) and they haven't worked...but he will mouth it a bit...I think I'm going to have my husband try spoon feeding him breastmilk...
Good luck! |

The same thing happened when I went back to work. My daughter absolutely REFUSED to take a bottle! We ended up buying about 10 different kinds of bottles until she finally found one she tolerated drinking from. We ended up with the playtex nurser w/ the disposable bags. Another thing to think about is to try different nipples. My daughter wouldn't drink from a silicone nipple, only latex. You may want to try giving her formula in her bottle. I read that some babies won't take the breastmilk from anything than mom. I ended up having to mix the two together at first until she got used to the bottle. One last thing, check the flow on the nipple of your bottle. It may be that the baby is getting too much or not enough from it and getting frustrated. 12 weeks is a cutoff for many nipple brands that go from "slow flow" to "fast flow" Just keep trying different things, and different combinations until you find what works. Good luck, hope some of this helps! |

Wow, Angie gave great advice! I agree with everything she said. I had the same problem with both of mine! The second was more successful, though. We have a dear friend who would come over & continually work with him and give him the bottle. Through much of his protesting, he finally took it. The best advice I can give is don't give up! Keep up trying & your little one will eventually get to the point where they will tolerate enough that you can go out for a little bit (or back to work).
Seriously, just don't give up, as frustrating as it may be. The up side to the second one, he has a fantastic, close relationship with our friend who helped with the bottle. :) |
