Sister or Foe

My younger sister (she is 21) is about to have a baby.

I was not raised with her. We have only been really talking this past year. I have been dealing with a lot when it comes to my health. When ever she e-mails me she never askes how I am doing, all she asked is if I am going to send anything for the baby! I am so upset b/c I feel like all she cares about is what she can get out of me. She does not call all she does is sends me an e-mail about once a week asking me if I am going to send anything for the baby. Am I thinking about this too hard? Is she just to busy thinking about the new baby? What should I do?

I agree with Devon on this. I think it is rude to ask. I was excited when I was pregnant, but I never called my family and asked what or if they were getting anything.

Hey Elizabeth,
She sounds like she may be very insecure with herself and there may not be anyone she feels cares for her and thus she "asks" for gifts afraid of no one caring enough to get her anything. Just athought. Be real with her and also remember that she is young and may be slightly immature. Love, love, love is the key. Tell her, "hey, I want to give you a baby shower, would you let me?" Also, share with her that you love her (if you do) and that you want her in your life and you are glad you two have been communicating. Let her know you aren't sure why you feel this way but that you feel a little one sided here and that you wishe she would check in on you just to check in on you. Again, love, love, love one another even when they don't deserve it.. That is tough but you could be a mentor to her and help her feel more secure through the love you show her. Good luck! How are you feeling by the way. I hope all is well and if not, I hope you will think on happy thoughts. st

Thank you Susan for the worm thoughts. I do love my sister and at times it is hard to show her that. She was raised in a very privalaged home and she knows that,, she plays the part of spoiled very well. She has been given a baby shower, family and friends from out of state attended and it still does not seem to be enough.
My health is much better since my sugary. Thank you so much for asking.
