Never thought I could be so mad at someone so little! |
I like most of the kids most of the time, and when my children interact with others I tend to stay neutral and not automatically defend my kids. Today, this little girl 5 or 6 was playing with my son and they were running around and one point I see the two coming back and her shouting at him "leave me alone" with all the rage was in her body. Apparently what happened is that they were running and she fall down and scrach her arm (nothing serious) and somehow she took it on him. He is a fast runner and maybe she try to catch up with him, I don't really know, all I know is that once home I had to tell my son that some people are simply not nice so it is no need to bother be friends with them.
I could not believe how mean she was!
Sorry it is a fresh story that I have not digested....

Part II
In the afternoon we see that little girl again. My other son (not the one involved in the previous accident) wanted to play with her. So I just reminded him that this girl was not very nice because she screamed at his brother, and in general people don't need to behave that way.
So he approached her and says: "I am not playing with you because my mother does not want to because you screamed at my brother last time".
I was stunned, I felt a little bad for the girl but above all proud that he was able to express the situation with clarity.
Then he comes to me and tells me that he really wants to play with her. Well, I told him to give her some times to think about her behavior so that she would not repeat it with other children. Then I give him a long list of friends that do not scream at anyone and that is why they are nice.
I debated a lot on how I handle this situation. I gave him the argument that he behave like a "big people" (an adult) that even if he wants to do something he puts it on hold to prove a point.
Then I felt that he is just a kid ... !
I am open to comment...what would you have done?
