Upcoming Group Features
On the heels of the new Group Events feature, we are working hard in implementing addtional functionality in the groups. Here are some of the features that are coming soon: 1) A group calendar, showing future and past group events 2) The ability for a group moderator to send a message to all members of the group 3) The ability to invite non-RaisingThem members to a group, just using their email addresses 4) A weekly group summary email with a recap of new members, new posts, new events - with the option to unsubscribe, of course 5) A group chat tool, to chat in real time with group members that are online I would love to know from you all which features makes the most sense to you and if there is anything we should add to this list. Thanks a lot! Ruddy RaisingThem Support

Hey Ruddy!

All of those things sound great! I think the most helpful for the groups I moderate are the ability of group moderator to send a message to all members of the group, inviting non-RaisingThem members to a group with just email address, and group chat tool.

Thanks A Lot!

I believe the group chat for members currently online would be helpful. Also, what about a feature where people can do a group swap where people can either buy, sell, trade, or give away items within the group, especially like in the homeschool group with teaching materials?

Ok, I am new to this and can't seem to locate a group chat tool. Help.

Tonya, the group chat feature is not yet available, that is why you can't see it... we will release it soon, but we are trying to prioritize according to what you, the moderators, are telling us is important.

I got some good feedback in my inbox as well, and I wanted to share it here:

a) Calendar is the most requested by moderators of local groups or playgroups (i.e. that meet in person)

b) Chat and mail to all members are the most requested by moderators of online groups (i.e. that do not meet in person)

That DOES make sense, doesn't it?

Hey that is a great idea. I agree, we need to introduce the ability for groups to create a pool of shared knowledge, share links to other websites, recommended books, etc.

We already have a feature for classifieds, I think it will not be too hard to tweak for this.

I will pass on to the development team.

I think that the Calendar will be great! Will the calendar allow members to RSVP for the events with guests (friends, husband, etc.)? With being able to see past events on the calendar can we see who attended?

Jill, the Group Calendars just went live today.

It allows you to see future and past events, and RSVP, but currently their is no functionality to say that you have guests, or how many so.

However I can tell you that many group organizers have been asking for this feature, and our development will be adding it in the coming weeks.

Thank you! I am looking forward to that feature.

Another thing my members have been asking for is a way for them to easily see what they've RSVPed yes for without having to go into each event. Maybe have a personal calendar for each member would be great.

Another thing is right now anyone in the group can post an event. Maybe you should make this an option for the organizer to decide on. I know some probably would rather they only have this feature instead of the whole group.

hi Ruddy
I agree with Erin on the feature for moderators to have the option to control who can post events in the individual groups. I think most moderators would want this to go thru them first especially with new groups where members do not know each other well. thanks
ps.
like the group chat idea.

Andrea, we'll have next week the option to allow the moderator to restrict posting events, group chat most likely the following week. We are also working on a better group event system where members can respond with 'maybe' and number of guests...

How about a group for mom with Disabilities? That would be a good group too have. There are more challenges and stress.

Ruddy,

How about a way to delete a group if someone starts one and it does not do well or in some cases no one joins?

Thanks,
Trish

Hi Trish,

We used to have a delete option for groups, but we had a couple of issues where a few people deleted a group by mistake and lost all the forum posts, so instead, if you want to delete a group, simply send a request to support [at] raisingthem [dot] com or via Contact Us and we'll delete it for you.
