What to do about falling asleep on her own? |
My child is having a hard time falling to sleep on her own...she only wants my husband and I to rock her to sleep. She is 7m old. I just don't understand why she won't fall asleep on her own with no assistance from us. Please help us with your advice and suggestions. Thanks so much |

That is the eternal question. From what I know most of the kids like to be rocked to sleep however you can train her to sleep by herself by basically make her cry and check on her every 5 minutes without picking her up.
I had twins and I used different technique, one would fall asleep in the swing, the other I had to rock. The pacifier helped a lot because it soothed.
When they got a little older I would lay down with them and make it really boring all around, so that they would rather sleep! |

Hello. I am also trying to sleep train my 6 mo old daughter. I recently bought the book "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Baby". Some of the advise has really helped. I can now lay my baby down sleepy- but not asleep- and leave the room. She may cry for a bit, but she eventually falls to sleep. I have a sleepy time routine (story, dim lights, lullaby) and use the pacifier. During the first couple of days she cried a while, but now cries for a shorter time. However, she still wakes up 2 to 3 times at night. The book adresses this and has a plan of action, and I'm still working on it. Good Luck & take care! |

I know its been a while since you asked this but when my son was a baby we started at 2 or 3months with a bedtime routine, every night at about the same time he'd get a bath then a bottle then we would lay him down to sleep and rub his belly or back till he fell asleep. Once he got to about 6 months we cut the rubbing of the belly or back time down so where he was just about to fall asleep and we'd walk out of the room. Every few weeks we'd cut it down a little more till it was just us doing bath and bottle and a little rub to say goodnight and then leave him in there to go to sleep on his own. We also had a cd player in there playing classical music to help him sleep. Now at 4 we still do bath at around the same time everynight and then instead of a bottle we read some stories then its bedtime and he goes right to sleep. I feel a routine will help. |
