Only a minimal amount of people experience food allergies. Most of the time food intolerances are mistaken by food allergies. Food intolerance symptoms resemble those of food allergies. Food has allergens that provoke allergic reactions. Food allergy is immune system response & food intolerance a digestive system response. An allergic reaction involves two components of the immune system: immunoglobulin E & mast cell. A mast cell is usual in areas such as the nose, throat, lungs, skin, and gastrointestinal tract. Allergies, in most cases seem to be hereditary. Milk, eggs, peanuts, fish, shellfish, crab & shrimp, soya, and wheat are the most common foods that cause allergies although you can have an allergic reaction to nearly any kind of food. An avoidance diet is the best alternative to prevent food allergies. Breastfed babies are less likely to develop allergies. Parents that have allergies should introduce new foods one at the time & observe how the baby reacts to it. Wait till your child is at least 3 years old to introduce foods that have a high risk in allergies. Make some changes in your lifestyle, your health is important! |
