Plese lead in the right direction

Hello Everyone!

I'm a single mother with three girls 15, 13, & 6. On Feb.2 my 15 year gave birth to my grandson. At this point I'm not sure what direction to go in. For the past three years the oldest two were staying with their father in IL. now one is at my sisters and the other with a friend there's a long story to this arrangement. My question is how and where do I begin to get my daughter on track? I leave CT next Friday to pick her and baby up and bring them home with me. Should I keep her out of school til next school year, is there assistance available, are there local groups in the fairfield area for teen mothers? Please someone if you know anything please let me know. By this summer all will be back with me!! :)

I would definately look for a young mothers type of group most cities have them- I know that alot of time they give parenting skills classes, and other types of support to mom(your daughter) and would also be a resource for you they would be able to give you encouragement and suggestions on what direction to go into next.- hope this helps, Mindy

My suggestion is to help your daughters with their goals. One thing I remember from being that age was if there was something I was working towards it kept my head in the right place and out of trouble. Maybe get your younger daughters interested in competitive sports and student councils and your oldest daughter should maybe talk to a school councilor, there are a lot of correspondence courses/online edu she can take to make sure she's getting her education while learning to be a mom. Congratulations on your granddaughter a healthy baby is a blessing.

Make sure your daughter is enrolled in the WIC program... this will help with the formula or breast feeding. I would get her back in school as soon as she is up to it. Some towns have a special school for young moms with different hours than regular schools. You could talk to your school district or dept of health and human services.
Good Luck

I would definitely encourage your oldest daughter to either go back to school or take online classes, getting and education will be important for her future. Also she would probably be eligible for medicaid and WIC, you should also encourage her to take parenting classes, as for your other daughters have them become involved in school and after school programs something they could have fun doing and stay out of trouble at the same time.. Congratulations on your grandson they are blessings in disguise

I had my first son at a young age as well...18. Anyways I would make her go back to school, I am sure that there is state aid for daycare and such. Look for maybe an alternative school, there is one here in my home town and it was there to help students in all different kinds of situations. But be all of the support and love that you can to your daughter and your grandson. You'll figure it out and so will she. But she has to go to school or she wont ever be able to support herself and her new son. Hope that helps, good luck and God Bless you!
