PLEASE HELP:Swaddle Blanket Un-do

I am a first time mom and I have been swaddling my 5 month old daughter tight in her swaddle blanket ever since day one. She will not sleep without it. Her Nana says she looks like a mummy, others say she looks like she's in a straight jacket in her swaddle blanket. She has slept all through the night since the first month. She sleeps 12-13 hours at night and is just starting to take naps during the day. (She used to only nap 15 minutes throughout the day, guess it's the price I pay for sleeping through the night). Her doctor said it's time to start loosening the swaddle blanket at night so she can get used to sleeping without it...but I have no idea what to do! When she's not swaddled she'll sleep peacefully in my arms but as soon as she's laying down in her crib her eyes pop wide open! Does anyone have any advice on how I can get her to sleep!?!? She and I both need a new routine and I don't know what to do!!!Surprised

sometimes it is best to let them cry they will fall asleep on their own sometimes rolling some thin blankets under their arms and around their feet helps a lot.

we were in the same situation when our 8 month old was about 4 or 5 months old. Our doc said to try and not swaddle her...cold turkey. Well, that was a mess. So, we swaddled her part way, with her arms out. We did this for about a week. Then put her in the swaddle "bag" for about a week, and finally without anything. We basically weined her off of the swaddle :) hope this helps!

Is swaddling that bad? My daughter is 7 months old and she WILL NOT go to sleep unless swaddled! By the time she has been asleep for a hour or so she has already gotten out of the blanket and un-swaddled herself but stays asleep. But I can't get her to sleep without it. I don't know the reason behind not swaddling them but I am going to keep it up as long as that's what makes her comfy. She doesn't stay that way all night and it's the best way I can get her to sleep. I haven't mentioned to her doctor that I swaddle her so I wonder what they would say?!? Do you know why they would want to break her of that?

I swaddled my daughter untill she was 4 months old. She spit up in her bassinett while she was swaddled and was choking on it. That was the last time I swaddled her and it was rough for a few nights because she didn't sleep but after a few days she was fine and with my other two kids I didn't swaddle at all because of what happened with Abby.
