advice on how to stimulate an 8 month old girl

Hello there. Am a 1st time user here, and I was looking for advice on how do you know if your child is getting enough stimulation? I have an 8 month old girl and I don't think she is getting enough. I have a hard time reading to her, she is too busy trying to go places, or eat the pages, than to settle and enjoy a book. I was curious to know what other moms out there do to keep their babies stimulated emotionally and happy.

I have a 9 month old and he is my second child. I was the lead primary caregiver in the infant room for the Naval Academy's Child Development center for over a year. Your baby should be trying to chew on the book and should be easily distracted at this age. The best thing you can do for your baby to stimulate her and make her feel secure is to give her attention, lots of hugs and kisses, and play on the floor with her. You can introduce new toys by just handing her something new to play with and let her hold it and put it in her mouth. Bright colors and nice music are great stimulators for babies. I'm not a huge fan of TV but those baby Einsteins are really attention grabbing

Thanks for your advice. It is nice to hear from other successful moms and how they do it. My little girl is very curious and happy which is great, but... I hate to admit I get a little bored and don't know what to do to play with her. I know she loves it when I sing to her and she loves bath time. She is all about trying to stand and is doing very well. I feel guilty, although i am in the same room with her sitting at the pc or in the kitchen,but she gets very upset when I leave the room. This makes me question is she getting enough att.

it is hard to keep them busy all day. my son is 15 month and i still have a hard time. have you tried a walker or bouncer seat.my son loved his walker cause he could kinda get around and the toys on it kept him busy too. oh and really colorful toys and balls.can she crawl? if so pushing a ball and then goin to get it is another thing to keep em busy for a while

I agree, it is hard to keep em busy all day. I haven't tried a walker but she has a stand alone jumper that she only likes to be in sometimes. She is crawling backwards not forwards. Not from lack of trying though, she has a likeable item placed in front of her a few feet away and she stairs at it and ends up travelling backwards instead. I am prob just being sensitive. Thank-you for your comments it all really helps.

my youngest daughter is 101 months and at this age as long as you are spending time with her and showing her new toys and stuff she is being stimulated. i hated baby einsteins. a baby this age shoudl be discovering things for herself not watching tv. and they never grabbed my oldest attentions at any age so we never tried with our second. me and my husband play patty cake and peek a boo with out 10 month old and teach her to clap and stuff. she needs to be down on all 4 discovering the world in your home or outside. my oldest crawled that way too. its too cute! she'll figure it out. good luck!
