Naps

My daughter is 4 and 1/2 months old and won't take naps longer than maybe 1/2 hour.  She has to either be swaddled or held.  The only way she will sleep at night is when she's swaddled but will soon have to break her of this due to the weather warming, her rolling over, and will be getting to big for them soon.  Any suggestions on how I can get her to sleep without being held so close?

Thanks,

Amy

My wife and I had the same problem at about 4 1/2 - 5 months. A friend suggested to us that we start feeding her cerial, in the evenings to rectify this. Afraid, I went to my doctor asking him to check her gag reflex to see if she was ready for food.

With his approval we started; it helped. I think food takes longer to digest so keeps them satisfied through the night. We now find her sleeping right through the night. However, now on baby food, we find if she refuses to eat food, and goes the day on formula alone, I might be getting up around midnight for a feeding.

Not sure if this is your solution. If you think it might be, ask your doctor. Ours has been quite helpful.

Oh, I did find cuddling and playing would calm her and put her to sleep. However it did not rectify the problem of her waking up in the first place. It seemed food was our answer.

She usually sleeps through the night pretty well, I just wasn't sure how much longer she will fit into the swaddlers. Also I wasn't sure how to help her learn to just sleep alone without being wrapped up or held by someone. She tends to raise her arms above her head and wakes herself up. That's why we have to swaddle her at night.

LOL...no idea what to do about that; I'm just a newbie. We are lucky now. When Riley wakes herself up and is not hungry she just quietly plays in her crib until she drifts herself back to sleep.

I'm probably gonna catch hell for this but try placing her on her stomach my 2 month old has been sleeping like this since she was three weeks....the reason why ur daughter throws her hands up like that is because she feels like she is falling. By placing her on her stomach this will stop that. If u feel uncomfortble just watch her for a bit and u will see she is capable of moving her head from side to side
