Angry 3 year old

My son Dallas will be four in June. His little sister Melanie is one and they were the best of fiends. About a month ago he started to be mean to her. Real mean. They dont have the same dad and his father left for Florida. When she returns from being alone with her dad he gets mean. He hits her, punches her, and just started to kick. I dont know if anyone else has had this problem but any info would be helpful. Thank you!

It sounds like your son is missing his Dad in a big way! Mind you I have no experience in this area, as I only have 1 child, but I grew up around a couple of kids without a Dad. They were hostile because they didn't understand why other kids' Dads were around, but not theirs. In these kids' cases, they started to believe that their Dads' didn't love them or want them anymore---and that's hard for anyone to handle. My suggestion would be to get him enrolled in like a Big Brothers program OR get him to talk to someone outside the family about his issues. It's not that he doesn't like his sister anymore, it's that he's jealous that she has what he desperately wants. Good luck!
