Clothing Law |
Has most of you know on February 10th, the government is wanting to pass a new law against buying clothes from garage sales and resale shops if the cothes has not had a lead test done on the clothing. I don't know about every one else but I live for garage sales and buying and selling my son's clothes. Also I don't know what would happen if a person is caught buying clothes used. My opinion is that this is just another way to jump start the already failing economy. Please tell me your input on this subject. The government has brainwashed so many people into thinking that everything in the world is bad. |

I did hear that, but what I heard was that is was All children's products, including toys. That would really hurt because young children go through things so fast they are often still like new when they are outgrown. And everything is so expensive.
I did hear that it applied to second hand stores, but I didn't hear the part about garage sales. I hope that part's not true. I wonder if it would also apply to swapping?
In a way I agree that we can't be so uptight about every little risk to our children. There are dangers, but we can't shelter our children from all of them. On the other hand, in light of all of the recalls that have happened recently, I would be reluctant to buy second hand toys without knowing if they were ones that had been recalled for lead. There were so many, that the odds of finding one at a garage sale are pretty high. |

Just another way for us to be controlled and we are slowly losing our freedom to do anything without permission. In Fl. my sister got a ticket for having a garage sale without a permit she had just moved there from Texas and she thought she was on a bloopers show or something, she had to go to court and pay a 25 dollar fine
The second hand store in my town ( consignment shop for kids clothing) she told me she was not accepting toys,strollers,swings,playpens...ect. but never mentioned clothes.
I wanted to have my 1st garage sale this spring I hope the clothes thing doesn't hold up.
So should department stores and retail outlets have the same tags on what they sell? It would all stem from where we buy it and where they purchase from.
It's all just getting more and more ridiculous I hope my toilet paper is safe ;) |

I heard about this, but I thought I heard something about it not applying to consignment shops. I know if it did, then it would pretty much close down all of the local childrens consignment shops, and I know the one I go to is still open. I dont know if she has restrictions on what she is accepting, but I know shes open. I will have to talk to her next time I go in there. |
