I have a 17 month old little girl and I am wondering how do you know its the right time to start potty training.....I started her at an early age of comming to the potty with me and telling her what I am doing and letting her flush the toilet...so when do I know its the right time and how can I get possitive feed back when she does start?

With my daughter I didn't have to guess, she was inquisitive and wanted to start sitting on it on her own. Our kids let us know when they were ready to learn by their interest in it- their poop, the toilet, potty chair, etc. I used plain MM's as an incintive reward: 1 for sitting and "practicing" 2 for going #1 and 3 for #2 and that worked well. Lots of patience and encouragement and a favorite potty time book is helpful too.

I am now potty training with my youngest boy, I knew for sure he was ready to start potty training when he started taking off his diaper every chance he got, lol. (and wearing them as chef style hats) ;) He doesn't like the feel of the diaper anymore, so with training pants, pull ups, and a carpet cleaner for mom (lol) he is just now starting to get the hang of the potty . He is almost 2.

Hope it helped! Good luck, you know your little one best so trust yourself and you both will know when to start learning potty.

At 17-months, looking for the inquisitiveness or starting to change them in the bathroom can be useful. Starting to offer them times in regular underwear can certainly be useful to increase the comfort away from diapers, but there will likely be some accidents still. Take it at a slow pace to avoid making them fearful of the potty, make sure you reward with appropriate positive accolades even if she starts to let you know she is wet in her diaper and work up from there by asking if she wants to sit on the potty if she hasn't been wet for a while. www.brainspotential.com
