need some help
i have an odd question. i have a 3 year old, and when she was born i was a single mother and her biological father was no longer in the picture. His name was never put onto her birth certificate. Now 3 years later I got married and my husband wishes to have his name put onto my daughter's birth certificate as her father. I have done the research and found that this is possible and we have aquired the forms to do so. My question is in regaurds to back child support. Since it has been 3 years since a "father's name" has been on her birth certificate, once we amend it with my husband's name, will he be held accountable for past child support?

I don't think so unless you turn him in. Now, if you and him separate and divorce you can make him pay child support because he is accepting he is her dad.

I would call the county office for child support and get it clarified from a case manager or supervisor there.

i have tried to contact someone for information, but when it comes to government services they're not the speediest in responses

No your new husband is not accountable for the back child support - only the biological father. Once the adoption or name appears legally is he held responsible for the future child payments. Joanie
