The Daily Battles with my 15 month old

Hi everyone,

I need input. My 15 mo old daughter and I are having more and more battles every day...diaper changes, sitting in her high chair, getting dressed, putting on socks/shoes, putting on her coat, putting her in her car seat, leaving playgroup, staying in a shopping cart longer than 3 mins, etc etc.  I've tried distractions but she's beyond that.  Sometimes I can wait a few mins and talk her into things but not very ofteIn.  'm struggling with just how much I force her to do when she's being so strong willed and stubborn,

Any thoughts?

Hi Lisa-

I have a very stubborn little boy as well. He is 27 mos. now, but it has always been his way or the highway. My advice would be to keep doing what you're doing- somethings can't be avoided, such as high chairs, getting dressed and changing diapers- those things you have to do.... you are in charge. BUT what I realized with my son is that I was making things more of a battle b/c I didn't want him to "win", now I realize after fighting with him for over a year, that he can have his way-its ok to let him have his way, he has no emotional or moral compass right now. So as long as your daughter is not doing anything to hurt herself, then relax and go with the flow- its normal to have a fiesty kid!! Try not to get frustrated- it gets you nowhere!!
good luck-

I agree with Amy. My girl is also very strong-willed. On the things that would not be safe, you are in charge and ride out the tantrums. They happen. You all will live through it.

When she want something that is ok for her to have, let her have it. I usually try to give my daughter some choices through the day so that she feels like she has some control. What do you want for dinner? What shirt would you like to wear today? Things like that
