17MONTH OLD WONT LET ME DO DISHES!

Im a mommy to a 17 month old girl and we no longer have a working dish washer :(so I have to do all our dishes by hand, but every time I go to the sink to do dishes my 17 month old starts wanting me to pick her up and since I can't she flips out and wont stop till I pick her up! No toy will distract her! And since we live in a small apartment our kitchen is really close to her room and I can't do them while she naps. It has gotten to a point where I have to wait till my husband comes home to eather take her so I can do them or I watch her so he can do them. I feel bad because he works 9 to 9 some days as a car salesman. Does anyone else have this problem? If so what did you do to make them stop!?

hi Christina, I have the same problem!! trust me it's identical! my son is 10 month old and every time I open the dishwasher he wants to pull everything out and whenever I do something in a kitchen he hangs on my legs and cries to pick him up... and then when he sleeps I don't want to be laud, so.. I do my dishes when he's sitting in his hight chair eating his finger food :) I make sure he has plenty of those tiny pices, like cheerios or gold fish and that he can see me. This usually gives me enough time to finish my chores :)

give her a little basin with water and some plastic dishes and tell her to wash her dishes while you do yours.

Both really good suggestions. My 'lil one is almost 15 mos. old and does the same. Seems like she thinks we are leaving her and she screams like you won't beleive. I like to try to distract her. One of her favorite things is the SCHOOLHOUSE ROCK dvd or Raggs dvd. Keeps her occupied while I can get some things done. Also, we live i n a one bedroom and while she and my wife still sleep I try to get all I can done. My wife keeps door closed so while I can't break ANY sound barriers, I am able to SOMETHING DONE.
Hope this was a Help, and Hey, nice to meet you all, =)
