Try the Feingold diet and lots of structure and consistency.

Let me know if you want some more info - I have been through it - one 14 year old past the stage and a 6 year old daughter is way more hyper then my son ever thought to be.

There has been a lot of study and research regarding children's diets being linked to hyperactivity. Eliminate processed food like chicken nuggets, french fries, burgers, fish sticks and fast food. Introduce a variety of fresh fruit and vegetables, fresh fish (for the omega 3- brain food), grill/bake/broil chicken and turkey, and add whole grain breads to his diet. Eliminate food with artificial colors such as breakfast cereals. If there is a cartoon character on the box, it likely has artificial colors added. Make sure he is getting as much exercise as possible. He needs to be able to burn off the energy in a fun and productive way like playing sports and playing outside. Support him by eating healthy and exercising with him. Ride bikes together, go for walks after school, walk to the store, reward good behavior by going to the park, etc... Hope some of this helps.

Jenny gave great advice! Avoid food colors! Especially red and brown in Sodas. Clear soda is better than colored. Keep the sugars Down and also watch wheat products.... My son was quite a handfull. This did seem to help alot. It's alot of work but if he has food allergies they can add to his acting up.
