baby won't nap

My three month old is a great night sleeper but I can't seem to get him to nap well during the day. I watch for his sleepy signs and as soon as I see that first eye rub I bring him up to bed. I have tried swaddling him, nursing, rocking, walking, singing... you name it. I can usually get him into a light sleep but when I put him down after about twenty-thirty minutes of work, he wakes back up within 15-20 minutes and is clearly still tired. I have read that babies his age should take two 2-3 hour naps a day. My baby takes one-two 45 minute naps. How long should he be able to nap for and does anyone have any ideas on how I can get him into that deep sleep?

Hi. Our son is 9 months old. He always has trouble getting comfortable to go to sleep on his own. It was hard at different ages. Now is just getting easier. He shows me he wants a nap. I rock him, sing to him, it takes 10 minutes to find a sleep postion, then I have to painstakingly place him into his lowered crib and roll him onto his tummy. He fusses at first, but then usually goes into sleep. He seems to "fight sleep" too. But I prefer to call it getting comfortable. Like his mommy.
