Switching to cow's milk |
I am a first time mom of an almost 11 month old girl. I was wondering what is the best way to switch to cow's milk? Do you just change over or is it better to do it gradually? Thanks, Kim |

You ccan switch her any way you like. If you do it cold turkey, it might constipate her and it might not. If you decide to do it gradually, put half formula/breastmilk (how ever you are feeding her) and half milk in a bottle and do it that way. It you do it cold turkey, switch her to cold milk right away. At first she might not like it, but she will eventually or gradually warm it less and less. |

Ok I tried switching mine cold turkey!!(warming it up of coarse) my poor little thing got the runs for a week. I brought her to the Doctors they said its rinovirous.
I would consider switching half and half , I really think my daughter has an allergy to milk. Hard to tell though with this "virus" and a big molar coming through |

You might want to do some research on milk and switching over. When I switched my first over...he started getting exzema (is that how you spell that?) really bad. The process milk goes through before we actually get it...is actually not all that good for us. Hope this helps.

When my son was on formula, he only had it in a bottle, never a cup. So when I introduced milk, I gave it to him only in a cup and never in a bottle. I started by giving him a little milk in a cup with meals, while he was still having one bottle of formula at night. He didn't seem to mind, and it made it easier to break the bottle habit, since I just stopped giving it to him when he seemed to have enough to eat and didn't need to supplement his diet anymore.
If she doesn't like the milk right away, or you want to do it more gradually, I suggest mixing it in a cup and not putting it in the bottle. It will make it easier to break the bottle habit. |

I introduced it gradually. He was breastfed and never used a sippy or bottle before hand, so it was a rather challenging transition. He wasn't sure of the taste of cows milk and he definitely preferred mommy to sippy! He likes it now (he is also almost weaned) but he just isn't a guzzler. |

One word....Soymilk. It is better for them, has as much calcium and is easier on the system. My daughter would spit up all the time, and had really gross poops on cows milk. Soymilk is great, in fact the whole family has switched. It also lasts longer in the fridge. There are some brands that aren't as good as others. The Kirkland Organic from Costco is great, and any that are vanilla are good too. |

My son wouldn't take a bottle or formula. He only nursed when I was at home and when I was at work he drank breast milk out of a sippy cup. He started having cows milk when he was about 10 months because my body could not handle pumping twice a day any more when at work. So, I would mix breast milk and cows milk until it was only cows milk. He loved it. A little bit of strawberry syrup didn't hurt. But, that is a bad habit to get into.:) |
