child allergies |
my son is 17 months old, it started at about 4 months with very bad eczema, they switched him from regular formula to Nutrangin, this didnt stop the eczema but we kept him on it anyway. He went to a Derm who gave us two Rx's and sent us on our way. From the very beginning I brought him several times to the pediatrician to have them listen to his breathing it always sounded loud I was told it was "surface noises" Now I switched doctors about 3 months ago with in that time they sent my son for blood testing (childhood allergy panel) it came back with allergies to Soy, Egg Whites and Peanuts. Some people have told me he is and was too young for these types of tests to be accurate....does anyone know anything about this? My son also has recently been put on a nebulizer on an "as needed" basis....I was reading the instructions on the "XOPENEX" and see that is's never been tested on children under 6! It also says no clinical studies were done and they don't know if it is safe.......PLEASE IF ANYONE HAS ANY INFO OR HAS BEEN THROUGH THIS, MAYBE HAS AN IDEA OF SOMETHING HE SHOULD BE TESTED FOR...PLEASE EMAIL ME !!!! crio515@aol.com |

Hi Courtney,
I am so sorry to hear that you are going through this. Your son and my son are the same age and yours sounds exactly like mine!!!!!!! Mine is allergic to about a million different things as well with eczema and all that. This is what we did for my son.
We did got a dermatolgist also and he is on antihistamines on an as needed basis. Benadryl and Zyrtec. And of course we did a gamut of testing through the allergist and found out all his allergies. this is what my husband (who is a pathologist) and has access to medical journals has read about allergies and testing. One thing is that, allergy testing at this age is not always accurate for the "lower" allergens. when you got the testing done, you should have received a lab report statign the levels of the allergies. If you didn't get that report, ask for it!!!! Anything under .1 is doubtful but could cause mild itching and eczema and things like that. Anything that is like 1.1 and above is a LIKELY allergen and to cause some difficulty. However, you said that your son is allergic to peanuts, which is PROBABLY TRUE and to be avoided b/c peanut allergies, if present, are NOT MINOR!!!!!! I would avoid all tree nuts. the egg white and soy--depending on the levels could or couldn't be serious allergens. if the levels are over 1, i would say just avoid them. how many times have you been to the allergist? what else did they test for?
the nebulizer, I would def. get a second opinion if your gut is saying something is wrong with this picture. esp. if it says that it hasn't been used on children under six. that sounds scary to me and too much of a risk.
also, did you see a nutritionist. nutramigen and alimentum are great formulas, BUT, they have soy in them. it is just broken down. right now, my son is on a formula called neocate for toddlers b/c he is also allergic to soy. i would see a nutritionist as well and see if it is going to get better.
the eczema will come and go and it will never really go away, but the breathing thing is scary. did they give you an epipen JR? that's what my son has. i am not sure if it is the appropriate thing to give you, but my doctor said that anytime your gut says something is wrong, use the epipen Jr. and call 911. I am going to post this on the website also. i don't know if i have answered your question, but I KNOW what you are going through. My son is so precious to me but it's been such an uphill battle with him and I also live in fear that something is going to happen to him! So, hang in there!!!! |

My daughter has and always had eczema since she was born and now is 15 months. they gave me a sterioid cream lipoid something, i put it on her every day with cream, it controls it but the second i dont put it on, it comes back. i have never tested her for food allergies, not yet anyway. i am more concerned with the breathing problem you said. It could be just congestion but my daughter is always congested. I would only do a nebulizer if you hear wheezing. I have asthma and allergies and I as an adult take zyrtec and only use an inhaler on an as need basis. But I was told zyrtec wasnt suppose to be given until atleast 6. Benandryl will make your child exhausted. I would go to a pediatrician specialist or a pulmonary doctor for the breathing issues just to make sure. My daughter used nutrugimen for a year, i dont think its the formula but really go to a pulmonary doctor. |

Hi,
I'm new here, and came across your post...my husband and some of my children have suffered from some of the things you guys have mentioned...I switched my home over to safer, healthier products for my family and the environment and have had great results. Some, if not all of the cleaning, laundry care, personal care products you are using on a daily basis are possibly the cause of most if not all of the symptoms you are describing. I have been amazed at all the new information I have been hearing about. To save time and space...You can look at my blog. I share some information on the products I have been using and the differences I have been finding compared to what is on the market today. Hope this helps.
