My daughter and my niece were diagnosed with it. It was a misdiagnosing though because they both eat very well, they just don't put on weight. It is a common trait in my family. My niece is 8 years old now and is barely 45lbs! My daughter is almost 6 months old and still hasn't doubled her birth weight. Does you son eat well? What does he act like? If he is eating and acting fine then I personally wouldn't worry about it. How old is he? Do you give solids yet? Sorry for all the questions, but sometimes I think that doctors like to scare parents because the baby isn't a big baby. They don't ever seem to ask are they eating well, how do they act, and stuff like that. I hope I was of some assistance. I know all situations are different, but just know that if your baby is eating fine and is happy, then you are doing great! I know how you are feeling though. When the doctor said that about my daughter I burst into tears. Let me know how things go. |

Actually, he doesn't eat well at all. We have to force feed him the majority of the time. He is almost 8 months old, and yes we have started solids. He tolerates them for a short period of time. But, when he sees his bottle, he freaks out. If we aren't force feeding him, than the only other time he eats on his own is when he is pretty much asleep. And, then he only takes a few ounces because he is so asleep he won't swallow.
Thanks for the advice! |

I hope all goes well for him. I wish I could offer more advice, but I guess we have a different situation. Keep me posted on how things are going. I will be thinking of your little guy and hopefully things will change real soon. |

My daughter has been diagnosed with failure to thrive as well. She will drink about two or three ounces and then she is done. The same goes for her solid food. It is like she has no appetite. She is 11 months old and only weighs 15 1/2 lbs. The doctors are saying that her cognitive growth and physical growth will be affected if she doesn't eat soon. I have already been to specialists, OT, Speech, and a dietician. She is also on daily medication for constipation. I keep going to doctors and noone can give me a solid answer as to why this is happening. I just pray each day that she will start eating. I will pray for your son as well Nikki. If you find a solution please let me know......Laurie
