discipline for 1 year olds
Is there such a thing as discipline for 1 year olds? Redirection doesn't even work sometimes for my VERY spunky 13 mth old son, Mark. He's VERY determined. I know that the word no, should be used sparingly, as they should discover as much as possible at this age, but I feel like that's all I say lately! When have some of you started something, as far as discipline and what was it? -Andrea & Mark (13 mths)

Trying taking favorite things away from him and redirection works if you are consistant but I know it's hard especialy for a 1 year old-good luck!

My 14 month old can be challenging some days. I find that redirection usually only works if I actively engage him in another activity. Instead of just taking him off the dining room table and pointing him toward his toys, I have to bring him over to his box of blocks, sit down with him and start building. I talk to him about what I am doing, invite him to try it. Sometimes it only lasts as long as I sit there and play with him. Other times I can get him engaged in something that is similar to what I am doing so I can still get my work done. I do use no, but I always follow it with a positive. For example 'no climbing on the table, climb on the couch instead.' This works pretty often, surprisingly.
