Freaking out! The oter day I was clipping my 3 month olds nails and i accidently got her finger. I cried longer than she did! And the first time she pooped WHILE I was changing her... I flipped... her dad had to come to the rescue because my brain froze and I didnt know what to do it was all over!!! |

hehehe... ok, I can so relate to both of those... when I found out that I was having a boy, my biggest fear (and really still is) was him peeing in my face.. though I have been fortunate to not have it in my face.. he has continually peed on me, my arm, drenched my shirt (at 3 am in the morning thank you..) and of course my husband thinks it is the funniest thing... but... I didn't realize that while changing my three day old son and wipping him.. I would sit there and watch my son poop... I just sat there and said "honey, I am watching our son poop..this is really wrong" I had no idea how to stop it.. or make sure it didn't go all over the place..do I continue to wipe? do I just close the diaper and wait for him to finish? do I put a new diaper on and then change it later when I am sure he is done? (of course daddy didn't help by just sitting there and laughing at my delima) I opted to quickly put a new diaper on and just wait it out... (i was afraid the diaper that was originally on him would not hold it all..and then I would have more of a mess to clean up later) and as far as the clipping the nails.. I told my husband early on in the pregnancy that he or someone else must clip the nails..(I am the ultimate clutz and just knew I would cut off his finger) so, I called over my friend a few days after my son was born to cut his nails (she had to drive 30 minutes just to do this job for me..how pathetic) and she ended up clipping his finger..she felt very bad..i just laughed and said.. i would have clipped all of them... being as his nails grow so fast and I didn't think it was very nice of me to call my friend over every 2/3 days...I now just file down the nails the best I can every few days..and hope they are soft enough to not scratch....so... you are so not alone... |

OMGoodness. The very first nail I ever trimmed I cut her. Got her thumb. She cried for like 2 seconds and went back to sleep.....then my next attempt....I got the other thumb....those little suckers bleed too...for like a half hour it seeped blood, and of course wearing a white outfit (thank god for Shout)...all I can say, is that my kid will never be able to Hitch Hike!
As for pooping...that happened here too. We were both assisting in her changing and she started back up again (we thought she was done with her movement) the Diaper was already in the pail, so we took turns grabbing wipes and catching it until it was done....All I could think of was soft served ice cream!
You're not alone....I think that's what they call parenting!

The best time to trim the baby's nails is when they are sleep. Iam a mother of 3 grown children and grandma of 17 month old and I did it with my kids and now my grandbaby. They fall asleep in the car or in your lap you run get the clippers and clip away. |

Parenting is full of stress..endless worrying about wether you are doing the right thing..but just the fact that you worry shows that you want the best for your baby.
Think about friends and family, did you squabble with brothers/sisters or friends when you were a child? I bet your friends and family don't hate you for that!! Your child will love you, even if you unitentionally hurt him/her and they will understand.
Try using baby scissors, as nail clippers can sometimes be too big for babies.
I work in child care and have looked after hundreds of children. I also have two monsters of my own!! My daughter is elbow height and I am always 'bonking' her on the head with my elbow..these things happen!! As for the pooping..my daughter pooped on a friends armchair whilst I was changing her (lack of organisation...) and another time she took her nasty nappy off in front of guests..poop all over the floor!!
Good luck with your baby, trust me..the stress and worry will become funny anecdotes in years to come!
