11 month old with cold

Hi. My daughter is 11 months old and has had cold symptoms for 3 weeks now. They are not improving. I have taken her to the doctor twice and they say just ride it out. Is this normal? They say her throat and left ear were "red", but they were not  infected. Needless to say, neither of us is getting any rest. I am concerned that it is going on so long with nos signs of improvement. Anyone else ever have this experience? Any suggestions? We are trying everything - sleeping with humidifier, steam in the bathroom, nose drops, etc.

Hi Kim,
My daughter gets very congested everytime she cuts a tooth. As long as the mucus is not yellow or green it shouldn't be an infection. Have you talked with her ped about an allergy? it sounds like there is not too much else you can do except maybe go to a different dr and see if they agree.

Thanks for the suggestion about allergies. I certainly hope it is not that. My husband has seasonal ones and he seems to always be stuffy. The practice we use has about 6 or 7 docs. Would it be rude to ask one of the others to look at her? We are new to the state,so I am may have to do some searching for another office. The one we use came highly recommended though.

I don't think it is rude to ask for a second opinion. I always feel that if a patient (or parent) is not happy they should always get a second opinion. Sometimes with a group of dr's they get so busy and sometimes can miss something. Maybe if you go back just ask the front desk person to see someone else.
