how to get him interested in school

my son chris is just not caring about school at all he doesnt care . weve tried everything to get him interested or even care alittle bit we have even went so far as to ground him from everything i mean everything and that hasnt worked were just beyond ourselves on what to do with him any more he just doesnt care and i hate to see him like that about school or about anything for that matter but school is very important to us and want him to have better and do better then we did please can anyone give me some ideas on what to do ty katie

My question would first be, why does he not care about school? If it is because video games and TV are more fun, then the answer is simple. Bye, Bye video games and TV. But if he is having some sort of trouble with school either academically or socially then that would need to be addressed before putting anymore stress on school. Education is very important, but a kid forced into it will sometimes reject it if something deeper is going on. My nephew just started kindergarten and would come home miserable. He hated school. My sister didn't understand at first because he was so excited to go. After careful listening and talking she discovered that he was not recognizing his letters as quickly as the other students. He was feeling dumb and embarrassed about his shortcoming. She now works with him on the areas he is uncomfortable with and encourages him in those areas. He is doing much better now, and liking school a little more each day.
