Wish she'd hit the bottle

Hi, wondering if you ladies can help me out.  My daughter, Marissa, is three months old and lately she is not following her normal eating routine.  When I say normal, I mean she was eating like 4 to 5 ounces every three hours.  About an hour to an hour and a half after eating, she'd take a nap.  Then, at 8:30-9:00, I'd give her her last bottle and she'd sleep until 6:30-7:00.  However now, she is eating, oh, I don't know, like 2.5 to 3 (I'm lucky if it's 4!) ounces every three hours; it seems like I'M the one "forcing" her to eat.  The other night she woke up at 4:45 to eat.  And then I let her eat every four hours the other day, but found she woke up at 3 am to eat.

I'm wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience with a random change in eating patterns and, as a consequence, sleeping patterns.  If so (and even if not), why do you think this is happening?  Should I be concerned about her not eating enough?  She's about 13.5 pounds.

Thank you so much for any advice/help you can offer.

 Tara :)

are you breastfeeding or formula? My daughter would have about 3 to 4 oz every two to three hours when she was that age. I never forced her to eat since she was gaining weight and healthy. The eating and sleep patterns do change as they get older. You may want to check with your ped too.

thanks for responding, jackie. i'm using formula. i guess i just don't get why, one day, everything just changes. oh well. i guess i'll just watch for her hunger cues and feed on them. the only thing that stinks is that i wind up wasting so much formula. (i prepare a batch the night before for the following day.)

I always feel like as soon as I get used to something being one way it changes. I sometimes use the ready made formula, it makes it a lot easier at night. Hang in there and just keep an eye on her weight, as long as she is gaining she should be ok.

My son did that around that age. He was also going through a little growth spurt and then rolled over soon after that. Since you're preparing formula the night before, maybe make a little less of it so you don't feel like you're wasting it and then if you run out, or get close to it, you can make up a quick bottle ~ it is expensive and the price went up almost $2.00 where I am in a weekend! That's the hardest part of feeding your baby. You have to "guess" how much they'll eat at that feeding! I agree with Jackie, as long as she seems to be happy, healthy, and hydrated, she should be okay and probably back to her "normal" eating habits soon. Good luck!
