weaning off the night feedings |
What is the quickest and most painless way you've discovered to wean off the night feedings? I have a 9 mth old son who wakes up every night for a bottle, but does go right back to sleep. |

Hi Andrea,
We used to give our son an 8 oz bottle around 10:30 pm or 11pm and he would sleep until 8 am next day. Now I only give him a full meal around 6pm and he'll won't eat until 7 or 8 am the following day.
I read couple of things about weaning. First, try reducing an ounce every week. Second, water down the formula.
Also, how much food is your son getting a day? I wonder if he is really hungry or is it a behavioral? |

Since my post, I went cold turkey on the bottle in the middle of the night and surprisingly, he put himself back to sleep within 10 minutes w/ little fuss! I was sure it was going to take a lot of crying, before he did it! I think I was definitely unable to listen to even a little crying, so I was propogating the problem.
Renee, my son also had really bad eczema up until he was about 6 mths old...I used the Arbonne product lotion for babies...an all natural lotion as well as hydrocortozone and his skin as drastically improved! I don't know, if this helps you or not.
Kathy, we also tried the 11 feeding, but he still woke up around 3 or 4 in the morning...crazy kid! I've found that his sleep schedule has more to do w/ the wakings than anything. If he doesn't get enough naps in during the day, he's wired to wake up and not be able to get himself back to sleep, as he's overtired. I've been reading a book called "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" and love it. |

I have to check that book out, Andrea. Glad to hear he was able to put himself back to sleep. James is now teething and wakes up middle of the night...lack of sleep on my end is becoming painful. |

For certain, Kathy! I can't function w/o enough sleep and it seems like it's going on 2 years!
Are you planning on more kids, like we are? I think we'll start trying again in Feb, after we get back from a vacation. |
