Training baby to fall asleep by herself

I have a four months old dauther and having hard time to put her to sleep in her crib for a nap.  As soon as I put her down she whales on me.  At night, as long as she falls asleep in my arm, she will continue to sleep in her crib but not during the DAY!!

Doctor advised to let her cry in her crib until she tires herself to sleep but she cries forever and when I finally pick her up, she's no longer sleepy and at the end of the day, she's overly tired and becomes more cranky.

Is it necessary to train her putting herself to sleep this early?  If I don't do it now, is it gonna be a problem when she become 1 or 2 years old?

It's hard to hear her crying in her crib for hours and certainly it's not gonna happen soon.

Thanks

my daughter is the same way. during the day i have to rock her to sleep in her bouncer and at night i have to rock her. she is 5 months old. now we lay with her on our bed before bed ti me and cuddle. it makes her sleepy and then wer l;ay her in her crib. i figure ill deal with it when shes older. id rather help her get all har sleep than have her be crabby. i cant just klet her cry. she turns herself purple and then wont sleep. id say do whatyou gotta do to make sure she sleeps enough. some might disagree but its better for her to get enough sleep dont ya think?

my pedi suggested it when my daug. was 9 months old.So at ten months i tried it and she never cries, except on occasion when she isnt feeling good. But her nap i rock her. and hold her the whole time. i need that cuddle time with her. if i was you i might would wait a littl elonger and try in a month or two .if it doesnt work then wait a little longer. you just have to do what works for you.

you need to read the book Good Night, Sleep Tight by Kim West. I have a 8 week old and he sleeps about 7 hours and then 3 or 4. Before I took the advise from this book he was only sleeping 2 hours at a time and crying when I put him down on and off.

I read the book On Becomming Babywise book 1 and 2. These explain all the answers to your questions. My little son who is 9 months, used to cry a lot when laid down for naps, about two weeks. After that, he would fuss for about 2 minutes and be asleep. I really recommend reading these books for the sleeping suggestions.

My daughter cried entire time after arriving home from hospital.....I am single mom found myself so exhausted my body needed to get some much rest I ended up crying a few times.....Appoximaetly second month my daughter would take nap at noon for about 5 or 10mins.and at 5pm take another 5mins.or 10 min. nap She began to sleep 7pm-1:00am wake for feeding or wet diaper then each day got better to almost 5am.When it was time for me to return back to work 8 weeks later things were a lot better....She would get her days& night confused plus a very light sleeper ..I normally turned everything off in my room & dim lights .My daughter sometime fall a sleep in my arms or on my chest soon as I put her down ,she wakes right up and begin to cry....Now I either breast feed her little bit or give her a bottle right before bed time I place her in bassinet & sing or talk to her this seemed to help....She only 6mos, last few weeks been teething..

Try putting her in her stroller for a nap. Thats what my son does. He only sleeps in his crib at night. Tried CIO in the crib for nap DID NOT WORK. DO NO LISTEN TO DOCTORS on this subject, they do not know your child the way you do.
