Enough Eating? |
Hi - I have a 10month baby boy. He only drinks 5-6 oz of formula every 3-4 hrs...and I usually give him gerber veggies once a day (at around 2 PM with juice or water). Is that enough for a 10 mo old baby? Sometimes I am concerned. He is close to 20lbs, but I wonder if any of you with babies around this age have the same issue. I don't really know if I should increase his food intake. I am afraid if I offer him more solids he'll reject the formula. Any suggestions or comments? |

my 4 month old eats 4 oz at a time every 2-3 hours. and then cereal at breakfast and supper. we gradually give her 5 oz every now and then and seh has 5 before bed. she is small. she weighed 12 2 at her 4 month check up and the doctor said just let her eat waht she wants. if she stops ot 4 then let her stop. they know when they are hungry and when they are full. give him some fruit mixed with veggies. the doc said they like the sweetness of the fruit. but ontil they are 2 years old they can eat how ever much they wnat. thats what my doctor said. so i would give him a littel more formula if he takes it. let him let you knoe if he wnats more or not. |

All babies are different, but my 9 month old eats 3 meals of solid foods per day and gets about 16 oz of formula each day. You want to gradually decrease the formula as you increase the solid foods to have him on a mostly solid foods at around one year. That is when you can think about giving up formula and giving him milk.
However, if he is gaining weight and seems satisfied he is probably getting enough. Like Devon said, let him tell you when he has had enough and when he wants more. |

hey Sonia!
my daughter is 9 months old and she has 3 solid gerber meals a day, and at least one of them is a stage 3-- big one! I also breast feed her still and give her water in a sippy cup (about 1/2 c) almost everyday. . . I don't think he'll reject the formula, but he can have milk pretty soon! |

My daughter's (8 months) feeding schedule is as follows:
wakes up has a 6 oz bottle (5am-8am)
Gerber 2nd food fruit mixed with 3 tbsp cereal ( 9am-11am)
6 oz bottle(12pm-1pm)
8oz bottle(3pm-5pm)
Gerber meat and gravy mixed with 2nd foods veggie (6pm-7pm)
Last 6 oz bottle before bedtime(8:30-10pm)
I'm trying to add another meal in there so she has 3 solid meals, but I'm not sure how to work it and make sure she still has at least 24 oz of formula per day. |

Hi Sonia, you're doing fine. You could try decreasing the amount of formula you give him at each sitting and maybe adding in more table food. At 10 months my daughter was still eating baby food and we were slowly adding table food. But that was about the time we stopped baby food all together.
If he prefers baby food over his formula, he's trying to tell you something. He wants to eat. That's what my daughter did. Oh, and she did only drink about 4-6oz every 3 hours until she was eating table food. I didn't think it was enough but weighting in at 10 lbs 9oz at birth I thought she'd eat more. |
