change in sleeping
the last few days my son sleeping pattern has changed. he used to sleep about ten hours a night but now he is only sleeping eight to nine hours. he is still sleeping through the night, he is just getting up earlier. we tried putting him down later, it didn't work he still got up early. i figure he is now getting around 12 hours asleep (including nap), he used to average around 14 hours. he isn't cranky with less sleep, i am just wondering why all of a sudden he is getting up earlier?i would appricate any input on this

My daughter is doing about the same thing. She typically went to sleep around 8:30 at night and slept until 6:30 the next morning, but now she is fighting sleep until late. Last night she was up til almost 11, and she still woke up at 6:30. She is also not sleeping as much in the daytime either, previously she would have two 30 minute naps, and one 2 hour nap(sometimes 3 hour) Now she only takes two 45 minute naps. I am interested in knowing why as well, I read up on this and found a million reasons why this could be happening. The one I feel the strongest about is that she is beginning to discover so much about her world, she has started crawling and walking a bit too, so she has access to everything and her little mind loves to learn, perhaps she is just too excited to sleep, she knows she has a whole world to discover and can't waste time sleeping while the sun is still shining. I'd say don't worry about it if he doesn't seem too cranky.

Babies go through lots of changes, and lots of these changes affect their sleep patterns. He is more aware of the world around him, and it distracts him from sleep. Also, as he becomes mobile, he keeps himself awake when he moves. I agree that if he doesn't seem cranky he is probably getting enough sleep. Try not to worry too much when these changes happen. They are a normal part of development.

We are going through the same thing. My daughter is 3 1/2 months old and was sleeping 8:30pm-6:30 am. Now because she is moving around so much while she sleeps she is waking herself up at least twice a night. I just have to pat her butt and she goes back to sleep. And then between 4:00am and 5:30 she will wake up eat a 5oz bottle and go back to sleep till 8am.
I just dont know how to keep her from waking herself up from squirming around too much.

You really can't restrain them in any way. Once they are mobile, you just have to have patience while they adjust and after a while they will sleep better. When my son started creeping he had a hard time going to sleep at bed time and naps for about a week, then settled down. This is also the time when they start to sleep less overall, so you may have to make adjustments to the nap schedule.
