We went through the same thing and I started playing peek-a-boo with our son. I made a game out of it I would duck behind a wall and jump out so he knew it was ok. We started this when he was about 3 1/2 months. He is now 15 months and I can do laundry and dishes while he plays in his room. When he get tired though that is a different story. Good luck.
